Barcelona can restrict temporary and room rentals in specific areas

Barcelona has definitively approved a planning modification that allows it to prohibit, limit or restrict temporary and room rentals in certain districts, neighbourhoods or buildings. Temporary use must be justified by work, medical, study or similar reasons.

1,529 public and affordable homes backed across Catalonia

The Generalitat signed agreements with 58 Catalan municipalities to promote 1,529 public and affordable homes. The agreements cover 91 registered plots; municipalities will transfer surface rights for 75 years and the Generalitat will open the tender.

This is a development pipeline, not new homes available to rent now. Keep it separate from your immediate search.

Housing camp keeps Christmas lights out of Plaça Catalunya

Barcelona City Council confirmed it will not install Christmas lighting in Plaça Catalunya, where a housing camp has been installed since late September. Municipal sources said there is no longer time to mount the planned lighting, even if the camp ends this month.

The camp is visible housing activism, but it does not itself change rental rules or listing availability.
