We track 2,071 Barcelona flats and 4,908 rooms today, down 21% and 8% from last week. Median rents are €2,040 for flats and €730 for rooms; 89% of rooms with a listed date aren't available today. Asturias rental-scam arrests: at least 80 people allegedly affected
Nine people were arrested in Asturias over alleged rental scams affecting at least 80 people across several Spanish cities. Police say suspects used online platforms or copied ads, pressured renters to pay reservation, deposit, insurance or rent money, then stopped responding.
Treat pressure to pay as a warning sign. Verify the property and the advertiser's authority to rent it before sending money.

Barcelona initially approves proposed 150% tourist-flat IBI rise
Barcelona initially approved a proposed 150% IBI increase for holders of four or more tourist-flat licences. The proposal enters an objections period and still needs final approval at the December council plenary. Jordi Valls says 6,000 active licences would be affected.
This is a tourist-licence tax proposal, not a confirmed change to your rent. Don't assume it has already added homes to the rental market.

La Balma's €712 monthly fee comes with a substantial upfront contribution
At La Balma cooperative in Poblenou, the average monthly use fee is €712 and the average initial contribution per resident is €33,000. This is not conventional rent: members can live there indefinitely, but the homes belong to the collective, not individual residents.
If exploring cooperative housing, compare upfront contributions and membership conditions as well as monthly fees; don't treat it as a standard rental.

Sostre Cívic challenges housing decree's treatment of cooperatives
Sostre Cívic says the newly approved housing decree retains a general 0% corporation-tax rate for SOCIMIs while nonprofit cooperatives face 20%. It also criticises the exclusion of right-of-use cooperative projects from the new ICO guarantee scheme.
If considering cooperative housing, ask the project which financing it can actually access rather than assuming new guarantees cover it.
