Barcelona has 2,038 flats and 5,849 rooms in our scan: flat supply is down 26% from last week, while rooms are up 6%. Median asking rents are €2,044 for flats and €740 for rooms. Barcelona initially approves tourist-flat IBI rise of up to 150%

Barcelona's council initially approved a proposed IBI property-tax rise of up to 150% for tourist flats. Final approval was not expected until late December. The proposed surcharge varies with the number of tourist-flat licences an owner holds.

This is a proposed tax increase for tourist-flat owners, not a confirmed change to your rental bill.

Housing union links November general strike to PSOE policies

Sindicat de Llogateres spokesperson Carme Arcarazo said the general strike called for 11 November also targets the PSOE over housing policy. She described the proposed indefinite-rental decree as structural, but said the PSOE expects it not to pass.

Follow the union's updates for strike details; keep proposed rental reforms separate from the terms of your current contract.

Bloc Papallona residents announce rent strike and demand expropriation

Bloc Papallona residents announced a rent-payment strike. They demand municipal expropriation and vacant flats at rents below 30% of occupants' income. The council says it proposed contract renewals through its rental programme; municipal sources say owner NAD has refused to negotiate.

The rent target is a residents' demand, not an approved cap. Seek tenant-support guidance before considering withholding rent.
